Migos's Takeoff is shot and killed in Houston
Kirsnick 'Takeoff' Ball is shot at 810 Billiards & Bowling on Polk Street in Houston around 2:30 AM following a private party. He is pronounced dead at the scene. He was 28. Patrick Clark is later arrested and charged with murder; the case is ongoing as of 2025.
Why it matters
Takeoff's killing — at a time when Migos as a trio had already publicly fragmented (Offset's exit; Quavo + Takeoff's *Only Built for Infinity Links* released a month earlier) — closes one of the most commercially central trap groups of the 2013-2020 stretch. Quavo's grieving (*Without You*, 2022 BET Awards tribute with Offset, *Rocket Power* 2023) becomes a public reckoning with the cost of intra-group fractures inside an Atlanta scene where dispute resolution outside of formal channels has produced an outsized casualty record.
