Her Loss is released.

Why it matters

Her Loss came out November 4, 2022, on OVO Sound/Republic. The album is a Drake-and-21-Savage collaboration LP. Drake and 21 Savage had been increasingly close on individual tracks since 2016's "Sneakin'" through 2022's "Jimmy Cooks," and the joint album was the formal consolidation of that working relationship. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and sold 404,000 copies in its first week. The album is one of the more commercially efficient projects in Drake's late catalog: 16 tracks across roughly 70 minutes, with the production handled primarily by Drake's regular collaborators (40, Boi-1da, Vinylz). "Rich Flex," "Major Distribution," "On BS," "Privileged Rappers." The Drake-and-21 dynamic is the substantive element: 21's deadpan, minimal, threatening-in-its-restraint register against Drake's more melodic, autobiographical, range-shifting delivery. The album won the 2023 American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album. You can argue Drake's catalog has been over-produced and over-released since 2018. The argument has support. Her Loss is one of the better-curated of his recent projects.
