Summary

Craig Brewer's drama follows DJay, a Memphis pimp turned aspiring rapper, played by Terrence Howard in an Oscar-nominated lead performance. Anthony Anderson, Taraji P. Henson and Ludacris co-star; original songs were produced by Three 6 Mafia and Al Kapone. Won the Audience Award at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival.

Three 6 Mafia (Juicy J, DJ Paul and Frayser Boy) won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 78th Oscars for 'It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp,' the first hip-hop act to win in that category. A landmark for Southern hip-hop's mainstream recognition.
