Summary

Cannon Films' breakdancing musical, directed by Joel Silberg, starring Lucinda Dickey, Adolfo 'Shabba-Doo' Quiñones and Michael 'Boogaloo Shrimp' Chambers. A young jazz dancer is introduced to LA's pop-locking and breakdancing scene and learns to fuse the styles. The film was a sleeper hit and spawned a same-year sequel, Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Hip-hop relevance

One of the first wide-release Hollywood films to put b-boy and pop-locking culture in front of a mass audience, alongside Beat Street the same year. Helped catalyze the international breakdancing boom of 1984.
