Sean John was launched in 1998 by Sean 'Puffy' Combs as the apparel arm of his Bad Boy / Combs Enterprises empire. The label won the CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year award in 2004 — the first Black-owned American fashion line to do so. The brand was sold to GBG in 2016 and reacquired by Combs in 2021.
